Slicked back hair with shaved sides and an undercut back has dominated the runways and magazines since last year. The trend is still going strong, especially for men with wavy, curly, and thick hair that benefit from significant pruning. This clean cut yet edgy look isn’t going anywhere but has constant variations depending on personal style. This style will sit through at least the first quarter of 2014. Well…. It’s definitely the cutest hair tutorial ever! Watch internet sensation, 3-year-old Riley Elle, adorably teach the world how to do a twist out! You might learn something too!
You probably know Alexander Skarsgård as the chivalrous, villainous, vampire on HBO’s True Blood — the one with the hair style your lady loves. Or, as Elle Medico, a men’s stylist at Paul Labrecque Salon puts it, “His hair is conservative, but a little a different. It has more style.”
She adds that any guy can achieve this look, and that it works especially well if you’ve got a receding hairline. “Longer up front and shorter everywhere else gives the illusion of a fuller head of hair.” If you’ve got wavy hair, it’ll turn out more like Patrick Dempsey, and if you’ve got curly hair, it won’t really turn out well. Sorry. This one also looks best if you’ve got a square jaw, but will work with just about any face shape.
Start by asking your stylist to give you rounded sides and layers. The bangs should be kept longer than the back, so they almost fall into your eyes without product. In stylist-speak, that’s called “anti-head” layers. Rub a light gel, like American Crew Firm Hold ($20), through wet hair and then shape it according to your natural part. Use bare hands for a messier look, or a comb for something slick. Then just a little American Crew Grooming Spray ($16) to help it all stay in place, then off you go into the night.
